The Institution of Civil Engineers, the
Institution of Structural Engineers, the
Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the
Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers together represent some 100 000 of the world's leading professional engineers.
These four professional bodies have formed the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) to work and strengthen links with universities to ensure that educational programmes are in place to develop professional engineers that will continue to provide a global contribution to sustainable, economic growth and ethical standards. The JBM assesses and makes recommendations on the accreditation of relevant educational programmes that it will accept as meeting the requirement to register as a professional engineer with the Engineering Council (UK) - the body responsible for regulating the engineering profession within the UK.
